FAQ Word Search with Clues.

What makes word search clues harder than a regular word search?

In a standard word search you see the word list and simply hunt for each word. In the clues version you only see definitions or hints — you must first work out what the word is from the clue, then find it in the grid. That extra step turns it into a combined vocabulary and visual-search challenge.

How do I load a puzzle to play?

Use the puzzle box at the bottom of the page to pick from dozens of ready-made puzzles covering a wide range of topics. Alternatively, upload an Excel file exported from the Word Search Maker to play with your own vocabulary list.

How do I mark a word I have found?

Click on the first letter of the word in the grid, hold the mouse button down, and drag to the last letter. Release when the entire word is selected. If your selection matches a clue answer, the clue is automatically crossed off and the word is highlighted on the grid.

Can I use my own vocabulary list with clues?

Yes. Open the Word Search Maker on this site, enter your words and their clues, then download the Excel file. Upload that file on this page and the puzzle is generated instantly with your custom content.

What devices can I use to play?

The game runs in any modern desktop or tablet browser. On tablets, touch-and-drag is supported so you can select words directly on the touchscreen.

How can I get a hint if I am stuck?

Double-click any clue in the clue panel and the first letter of that word will be highlighted with an orange circle on the grid. This gives you a starting point without revealing the whole word.
