How the Puzzle Builder Works

Searching for words

Click in any row of the pyramid, then click "Search for words". The app looks at the word in the row below to determine which letters are available, then filters by any letters you have already typed in the current row. For example, if you have typed "ana" followed by a space, the app finds all valid words starting with "ana". Double-click any word in the list to place it in the row — the clue is filled in automatically.

Clues

Word pyramid puzzles can be challenging to solve, so clear clues make a big difference. Once the pyramid is complete and valid, most clues are filled in automatically by the app. You can add any missing clues or edit the ones already provided.

Stone colours

White — The stone is valid. Click it to select it and type a letter.
Grey — The row below this stone is not yet complete.
Red — The stone contains an invalid letter. The puzzle cannot be saved or downloaded until all red stones are corrected.
Yellow — Right-click any stone to toggle it yellow. When you download the puzzle, the letters on yellow stones are visible to the solver, making the puzzle easier.

How to Use the Word Pyramid Puzzle Maker

Step 1 — Choose the Pyramid Depth

Select 7, 8, 9, or 10 from the "Longest word" dropdown. This sets the length of the bottom word and the total number of rows. A 7-letter base gives a shorter puzzle; a 10-letter base creates a longer, more challenging chain.

Step 2 — Start from the Bottom Row

Click the first stone on the bottom row and type the longest word. Press Enter to confirm — the app searches for a clue automatically and unlocks the row above. Only the bottom row is active when you begin.

Step 3 — Work Your Way Up Row by Row

Each row must use only letters from the row below, minus one letter. The app enforces this automatically and rejects any invalid input. Use "Search for words" at any step — it queries the dictionary for all valid words that fit the current position. Double-click any result to place it.

Step 4 — Add or Review Clues

Most clues are auto-filled once you complete a word. Check the clues panel below the canvas and edit any that are unclear. To reveal a letter as a printed hint, right-click any stone — it turns yellow and its letter will be visible on the worksheet.

Step 5 — Download as PDF or Save
