Why Practise Long Division With Remainders?
A remainder is what is left over when a number does not divide exactly — and students frequently stumble at this final step. They may forget to check whether the last subtraction reaches zero, or they may not know how to write and interpret a non-zero remainder. Dedicated practice on remainder problems fixes both gaps.

How to Write a Remainder
- Complete all divide, multiply, and subtract steps as normal.
- When you reach the last subtraction and the result is smaller than the divisor, that result is the remainder.
- Write the quotient above the line, then add R followed by the remainder number. For example: 865 ÷ 8 = 108 R1.
- Check by multiplying: quotient × divisor + remainder should equal the dividend.
